Where Lack Becomes a Teacher (Niyama) Svadhyaya

My favorite limb of yoga is Niyama - Svadhyaya (self-study). The last 4 months I've immersed myself in a program of self-discovery, and I graduated! I'm so proud of myself. We began with more than 50 people, and only 22 completed the journey. It was intense and asked for us to go deep within ourselves. We dove into our childhood, and how the stories of old molded our individual ideologies. Common themes were: I'm not enough, I don't have enough, I am not safe, I am alone. Healing begins when we stop asking, "What's wrong with me?" and start asking, "Where did this story come from?"
I've come to believe that whenever I feel a sense of lack—whether it's a lack of time or a lack of intimacy—it's an invitation to become present. Scarcity is often a signal that I'm avoiding something within myself. When I stop running and allow myself to fully feel what I've been resisting, time softens, connection returns, and what once felt empty no longer does.
When I am still, I can remember to calmly breathe and get grounded. I remember to love myself so I can choose to not feel overwhelmed or lacking in some way. "I am" are powerful words. Words that follow those two words send a signal to your brain-heart coherence of what already is. When I am still, I am strong. When I breathe slowly, I am in harmony. When I am grateful, I am joyful. This week's invitation is to get underneath your personal stories and rewrite them with awareness and compassion. More on this in my book, which is coming along. My goal is to have it finished by the end of September. I hope you will all support me and purchase it when it's time! Love and prayers to all.
