Embracing the Fall Equinox: Life and Yoga Practices

The fall equinox, a time of balance between day and night, offers a unique opportunity to reflect and realign our lives. This transitional period invites us to embrace change and prepare for the busy winter months ahead. As the trees prepare to let go of their leaves, what is one thing in your life you might gently release to make space for new growth. Making small shifts early will move you toward greather balance later. As change is a part of nature, we should accept the rhythm of change within ourself.

Pranayama Practice for the this time.

Viloma

Inhale Variation: Inhale a third of your lungs, pause. Inhale another third, pause. Fill completely, pause, then slowly exhale. This will jog up energy.

Exhale Variation: Inhale fully. Exhale one third, pause. Exhale another third, pause. Exhale completely, pause, then inhale. This will slow down the nervouse system.

This pranayama symbolizes the pause of balance, like the still point between summer and winter. Anytime we consciously pause the breath, Kumbhaka, the whole body has a reset that touches your nervous system, circulation, and even your brain chemistry. T

Benefits of Kumbhaka Pranayama

  • Resetting the Body: Aids in resetting the entire body system.

  • Nervous System: Positively impacts the nervous system.

  • Brain Chemistry: Affects brain chemistry to enhance mental states, akin to meditation and similar to alpha/theta waves.

  • Circulation: Calms and regulates circulation through pressure changes in the chest.

Reflect and Set Intentions

  • Do make time for yourself

  • Get organized but stay flexible

  • Down-grade your nervous system by S-L-O-W-I-N-G down

  • It's acceptable to postpone tasks until tomorrow. Forget the old saying, "Don't delay until tomorrow what you can accomplish today." That phrase has certainly led to overworking me.
